New Mexico United’s Alex Tambakis Nominated for 2025 USL Championship Save of the Year

The USL Championship announced today that New Mexico United goalkeeper Alex Tambakis has been nominated for the 2025 Save of the Year.

Tambakis earned the nomination for his exceptional double save on March 29 against Miami FC—a sequence that quickly emerged as one of the premier defensive moments of the season. The Greek goalkeeper demonstrated outstanding reflexes in parrying an initial close-range effort before immediately recovering to deny the ensuing rebound. His decisive intervention preserved the clean sheet and played a pivotal role in setting the tone for United’s commanding victory.

The league has selected 16 standout saves from the season, arranged into four groups, with fan participation deciding which performances move forward to the Final stage of the 2025 Save of the Year competition.

On September 10, 2025, Zico Bailey executed an extraordinary 63-yard chip from midfield against Detroit City, propelling New Mexico United to a decisive 4-0 victory. The remarkable combination of vision, precision, and audacity earned national attention, securing a place on ESPN’s SportsCenter Top 10 highlights and marking it as one of the most defining moments of the 2025 USL Championship seon.

The league has selected 16 top goals, divided into four groups, with fans voting to determine which entries advance to the Final stage of the 2025 Goal of the Year competition.

New Mexico United Announces Open Tryouts Ahead of 2026 USL Championship Season

New Mexico United is pleased to announce that the club will host its next round of Open Tryouts on January 10, 2026, at Kraemer Fields (2811 Karsten Ct SE, Albuquerque, NM 87102). This marks the fifth open tryout held by the club since its inaugural 2019 season and remains a key opportunity for aspiring athletes to earn a potential spot on the United roster.

Open Tryouts are available to male players ages 17 and older, offering a direct pathway for local and regional talent to be evaluated by New Mexico United’s technical staff. The club has a strong history of identifying players through this process. In its first year, United signed Josh Goss and Phillip Beigl—both discovered through open tryouts—to the first-team squad.

New Mexico United’s Talen Maples Named to 2025 USL Championship All-League Second Team

New Mexico United defender Talen Maples has been named to the 2025 USL Championship All-League Second Team, the league announced today. The honor recognizes Maples’ outstanding performances throughout the 2025 regular season, solidifying his reputation as one of the top defenders in the USL Championship.

“We are proud of Talen and him representing New Mexico United on his all-league selection,” said New Mexico United Head Coach Dennis Sanchez. “Talen leads by example every day through his professionalism, work ethic, and will to win. He is fully deserving of this honor.”

Maples’ selection highlights a standout year at the heart of United’s defense. Over the course of the 2025 campaign, he made 29 regular-season appearances and 36 across all competitions, contributing not only defensively but also in attack. Maples tallied 7 goals and 1 assist in league play, and 9 goals with 2 assists in all competitions, showcasing his ability to make an impact on both ends of the pitch. 

Since joining New Mexico United in 2024, Maples has established himself as a defensive leader and key contributor in the club’s growth. His inclusion on the All-League Second Team places him among the top defenders in the USL Championship.

New Mexico United Makes History with First-Ever Western Conference Final — Fans Invited to Ride Along on the Journey to Tulsa

New Mexico United is thrilled to announce the Conference Final Bus Trip, an exclusive fan travel experience taking supporters from Albuquerque to Tulsa for United’s upcoming Western Conference Final matchup.

This moment marks a historic milestone for New Mexico United, as the club advances to the Western Conference Final for the first time in franchise history. Since its founding, United has been driven by an unwavering commitment to excellence on and off the pitch, building a passionate fan base and uniting communities across the state. Reaching this stage of the postseason represents a significant achievement for both the team and the entire New Mexico soccer community.

For $175, fans will receive round-trip transportation and a game ticket, along with exclusive United merchandise and refreshments provided by New Mexico Piñon Coffee. This one-of-a-kind package allows supporters to travel together, celebrate United’s historic playoff run, and bring the energy of New Mexico to Tulsa.

The bus will depart from Sandia Hotel and Casino on Friday, November 14 at 9:00 a.m. and return on Sunday, November 16 at 10:00 a.m.
