STATEWIDE, NM – USL New Mexico, a United Soccer League (USL) 2019 expansion team, has been collecting input from community members, regarding the team name. The franchise was announced on June 6, 2018, and since then, 187 responses have been submitted at uslnm.com/nameyourteam.
“We’re energized by the feedback from our community members,” said team Owner and President, Peter Trevisani. “It’s exciting to witness, first hand, the passion New Mexicans have for the game, and their professional soccer team.”
The name of the team will not be voted on by community members, but the input they have provided has been invaluable in USL NM branding meetings and discussions. “Internal members of the franchise have ideas, I have ideas, and obviously, our fans and supporters have ideas. All of them deserve consideration and thought,” said Trevisani.
The submissions span from the more traditional soccer terms (New Mexico Football Club, New Mexico United, and Deportivo New Mexico) to more New Mexico-centric suggestions (New Mexico Roadrunners, New Mexico Geckos, and New Mexico Sky). There is also a healthy dose of quirky and off-the-beaten path proposals. “Chupacabra FC and NM Falcon Force FC literally made me laugh out loud” said USLNM Digital Media Manager, Lukas Cash. “Our state is full of some creative and hilarious soccer fans.”
The submission form will be closed on July 20th. The team expects to announce the official name a few weeks after. “Obviously we have to pick just one name, but we don’t want anyone to feel like their submission didn’t matter. We will definitely use some ideas and suggestions from this campaign for future initiatives,” Trevisani concluded.
In addition to making suggestions for the team name, fans can also place deposits for season tickets, at uslnm.com/tickets, and become a founding contributor to the club.
