Job Title: Director of Communications
Position Summary:
New Mexico United is seeking a seasoned Director of Communications to lead and manage the club’s internal and external communication efforts. This leadership role will oversee strategic communications planning, media relations, public messaging, crisis communication, and brand positioning in alignment with the club’s mission and values. The ideal candidate will be a compelling storyteller, a proactive media strategist, and an experienced team leader capable of shaping how New Mexico United is represented in the public eye.
Key Responsibilities:
- Represent and promote the mission, vision, and values of New Mexico United through clear, consistent, and engaging communications.
- Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that elevate the club’s public presence locally and nationally.
- Serve as the primary liaison with media; manage media requests, develop press materials, and act as the official spokesperson for the club.
- Create and oversee the execution of internal and external messaging, press releases, talking points, and key announcements.
- Guide and enforce brand voice, tone, and messaging consistency across all platforms.
- Lead crisis communication planning and serve as a key advisor during critical or high-profile situations.
- Provide media training to front office staff, technical staff, players, and others who represent the club.
- Collaborate across departments to ensure alignment and consistency in messaging and communications.
- Track, measure, and report on media coverage and communications effectiveness; adjust strategies accordingly.
- Supervise and support a small communications team, including interns or contract staff, providing mentorship and professional development.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of progressive experience in communications, media relations, or public affairs.
- 3+ years of leadership experience managing teams or departments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field.
- Strong background in media engagement, public speaking, and message development.
- Proven experience leading communication strategy for a brand or public-facing organization.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with attention to tone and voice.
- Experience managing reputational risk and crafting crisis communications.
- Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Deep understanding of media trends, analytics, and communications metrics.

Job Title: Executive Director of the Somos Unidos Foundation
Department: Somos Unidos Foundation
Reports To: Somos Unidos Foundation Board
FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Summary/Objective:
Reporting to the Somos Unidos Foundation Board, the Executive Director drives fundraising efforts, executes program initiatives, coordinates quarterly board meetings, and collaborates with New Mexico United departments and partners to advance community engagement and uphold the Foundation’s mission. The person in this role leads the day-to-day operations of the Somos Unidos Foundation, managing core programs such as youth soccer clinics, all community initiatives and administering the business of the New Mexico United Academy.
KEY Responsibilities:
- Manage and grow the Somos Unidos Foundation’s donor database, in an effort to generate a larger and more engaged donor base.
- Actively market and communicate with the Foundation’s marketing database and the New Mexico United fan base about the impact of the foundation
- Execute quarterly fundraising events and ongoing fundraising initiatives
- Execute community soccer clinics around the state of New Mexico
- Execute the Holiday Tour in November & December around the state of New Mexico
- Collaborate with the New Mexico United Academy Staff on planning travel for matches, Academy events and administering the scholarships for the players of the Academy
- Collaborate with the New Mexico United Corporate Partnerships department with activating partnerships that they sell for the Foundation
- Collaborate with the New Mexico United Merchandise department on procuring and distributing branded merchandise for Foundation activities
- Collaborate with the New Mexico United Ticketing department on procuring and distributing tickets for the Community Corner at home matches
- Collaborate with the New Mexico United Accounting department on reconciling financials and generating regular financial updates for the board
- Collaborate with the New Mexico United Marketing & Communications departments on managing the Foundation’s social media pages and gathering & distributing media (photo, video etc)
- Collaborate with the New Mexico United Community department for community appearances with New Mexico United players & coaching staff
- Run Foundation activations at New Mexico United home matches
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, public administration, communications, or a related field
- 3–5 years of leadership experience in nonprofit, foundation, or community program management
- Proven success in fundraising, donor relations, and securing sponsorships
- Experience planning and facilitating board meetings and working with board members
- Strong understanding of community engagement, youth programming, and all initiatives
- Ability to collaborate across departments and with external partners to meet shared goals
- Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills
- Passion for social impact, sports for good, and representing diverse communities
- Spanish language skills are a plus
- Grant writing skills are a plus

Overview
The Community Coordinator is a key contributor to the daily operations of New Mexico United and the Somos Unidos Foundation. This role supports the planning, coordination, and execution of community-focused programs, including the New Mexico United Academy, free Community Clinics, and Foundation-led fundraising initiatives. The ideal candidate is passionate about community impact, youth development, and inclusivity and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Program Coordination: Support and help manage logistics for community programs, including outreach, community soccer clinics, programming, and public health initiatives.
- Administrative Support: Coordinate scheduling and communication across multiple departments’ programs, including managing calendars for program events, community meetings, and team appearances.
- Community Engagement: Represent New Mexico United and the Foundation at community events, ensuring a welcoming and inclusive environment. Help strengthen community partnerships and maintain positive relationships with external stakeholders, partners, and donors.
- Event Support: Assist in planning and executing community events and initiatives; serve as a key support staff member during match day activations, fundraising events, and outreach campaigns.
- Data & Reporting: Assist with the collection and tracking of program metrics, attendance logs, donor records, and participant feedback to help evaluate program impact.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including Marketing, Merchandise, Ticketing, Partnerships, and Foundation, to ensure initiatives are aligned with club branding and messaging.
- Program Coordination: Support and help manage logistics for community programs, including outreach, community soccer clinics, programming, and public health initiatives.
- General Support: Take initiative in performing various tasks and projects that arise within the Community Department. Embrace flexibility and teamwork to support the success of the overall organization.
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
- 1–3 years of relevant experience in community programs, nonprofit work, youth development, event coordination, or a related field.
- Proven experience managing multiple calendars and scheduling in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong computer proficiency including Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and basic CRM platforms.
- Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams while maintaining professionalism and discretion.
- Comfortable working evenings and weekends as needed for events, match days, and community programs.
- Enthusiasm for sports, youth programming, and community empowerment in New Mexico.
