NEW MEXICO UNITED ANNOUNCES COLLABORATIVE “UNITED BY PAINT” ART PROJECT
New Mexico United, We Are This City, Meow Wolf and One Albuquerque Put Out Call For Artists to Participate in Art Project
ALBUQUERQUE, NM (June 20, 2019) New Mexico United has partnered with We Are This City, Meow Wolf and One Albuquerque on a collaborative art project called “United by Paint”, featuring 270 wood panels decorated by 150 students from Garfield, Hayes and Kennedy Middle Schools, as well as 5 New Mexico United soccer players and United Owner and CEO Peter Trevisani.
The 270 painted wood panels will be distributed to local New Mexico artists to use as canvases to create collective art pieces to be exhibited and sold. To create the wood canvases, middle school students and United players dipped soccer balls in 10 gallons of black and yellow paint and kicked them against the panels to create unique pieces of art.
“New Mexico United has always been about more than just soccer – we are about our community, about mixing art with sport,” said CEO and Owner of New Mexico United, Peter Trevisani. “This collaborative effort is an excellent opportunity for us to showcase all of these things and to prove that it is cool to be both an artist and an athlete.”
“Albuquerque is a creative city, where visual artists, poets, musicians, and others drive our culture and our economy. We’re also a city that loves its soccer,” said Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller. “United by Paint brings these two things we love together and connects kids to their community. We’re proud to be partnering on this fun project.”
New Mexico United’s Meow Wolf game on August 3 will feature an exhibition of artwork and ten local artists will work to create live art in front of thousands of soccer fans. In addition to the announcement of “United by Paint”, the art project partners are putting out a call for New Mexico artists who would like to be a part of this incredible opportunity. "Meow Wolf is thrilled to be part of this collaborative project to support local students and artists, and proud to be supporting We Are This City through our annual DIY Fund," said Meow Wolf Co-founder and CEO, Vince Kadlubek. "We believe in the power of community and know the importance of providing opportunities for creative expression to people of all ages. United by Paint is a shining example of the value our state puts toward creativity and collaboration that makes our community stronger."
“It has been an awesome experience working with the kids and the team to make the United by Paint project come to life,” said We Are This City Founder Max Baptiste. “It is an honor to showcase the local artist community with such amazing partners. It all starts with the community. Somos unidos!”
