New Mexico United is thrilled to announce the return of midfielder/defender Sam Hamilton ahead of the 2023 USL Championship season. Hamilton – one of the original New Mexico United signees in 2018 – has been a key defensive figure for the club in the four years since, willing and able to deftly move between midfield and defense multiple times whenever the club has needed.
Hamilton has been a defensive stalwart for United – posting unbelievable numbers in many important categories. His ball recovery rate of 4.57 per match is one of the top scores of any player in the USL Championship, regardless of position. His total successful action rate of 70.5% is also one of the highest in the league. Sam also routinely leads United in ground covered over the course of a match, and is a top-five performer in the league in passes allowed per defensive action (PPDA).
Hamilton is seventh in United history with 81 appearances in the Black & Yellow. He has logged more than 6,000 minutes for United in all competitions, and has been a consummate professional on and off the pitch. The Denver native is an active member of the community, participating in community clinics, school visits and more.
