New Mexico United’s second preseason match ended in a 3-1 win against Detroit City FC on Sunday afternoon. The match – United’s second of three in the next week in Tucson – featured first team regulars, trialists, and Academy Contract players.
The Black-and-Yellow kicked off on the right foot, opening the scoreline after just 12 minutes. England’s Daniel Bruce scored an audacious half field goal to give NMU an early lead. Goalkeeper Ford Parker made three saves to keep the lead going into halftime.
Trialist Danny Robles doubled United’s lead one minute into the second half. Robles retrieved a loose ball inside Detroit’s 18-yard-box, turned and placed a shot in the goal. However, Detroit City FC cut the difference in half with a goal in the 46th minute.
The Black-and-Yellow responded with a third goal in the 68th minute. Midfielder Amando Moreno drove the ball up through the middle of the field. He dished out a pass wide to forward Greg Hurst. The Scot picked out forward Santi Moar inside the box, who finished the goal.
The final score was 3-1 at Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Ariz.
