The Albuquerque Environmental Planning Commission emphatically approved the proposal for a permanent home for New Mexico United – a privately-funded multi-purpose stadium – to be built at Balloon Fiesta Park. The vote passed by an 8-1 margin, and now heads to Albuquerque City Council for final approval on Monday (11/20) evening.
“The numerous meetings we’ve had with neighbors, Balloon Fiesta Park, Balloon Fiesta, and the City have really shaped the scope and positive impact of this project,” said United Owner/CEO/President Peter Trevisani. “The Commission’s recognition of that hard work is an indication that this project truly serves all of New Mexico.”
The Commission’s approval of the proposal is an indication of their satisfaction with plans related to light, sound, traffic, parking and more – all important items to consider when crafting a proposal of this size. New Mexico United and their community partners have worked collaboratively over months of planning, hearing from community members, business leaders, and more, and will continue to work collaboratively with those groups and more to create another New Mexican success story.
The proposal now heads to Albuquerque City Council, whose approval would largely greenlight the project. That meeting is set for Monday, November 20th at 5:00 PM in the Vincent E. Griego Council Chambers located in the basement of the City of Albuquerque Government Center.
