New England Travels – New Mexico heads on the road to play Hartford Athletic

The Black and Yellow looks for their first ever points in Hartford

New Mexico United’s tour of the Eastern Conference takes them on the road to Hartford, Connecticut. Coming off of a win against eastern powerhouse Charleston Battery the Black and Yellow are looking to continue to build on that momentum against Hartford Athletic.

Constitution State Adventures 

This will be the fourth season in a row that these two teams will face off against each other. Since inter league play was introduced in 2021 United and Athletic have met a combined four times only failing to match up in 2022. Hartford is one of the few teams that has gotten the best of the Black and Yellow as United is looking to pick up their first points in Hartford as the team’s past two visits to the Constitution State have not netted a win. 

Wicked Good Play 

Kipp Keller and Chris Gloster have had good form the past two matches for United. Keller not only was a huge part of United’s backline brilliance last week but scored a screamer for the Black and Yellow from just outside the box earning him team of the week honors. A very excited Keller postmatch Saturday shared with local media his love for playing with New Mexico. “This is my home” Keller said with a smile. Gloster has been a force all season having a massive block inside the box during last Saturday’s match keeping the score level. Gloster credited his connection with teammate Dayonn Harris post match with why his play keeps improving this year.

Goal Haven

Augi Williams has been one of the league’s best scorers in his time in the USL Championship. In his first season with Hartford he leads the team in goals for the Connecticut side. Since 2022 Williams has scored 56 goals across four teams in the Eastern Conference.

Kipp Kipp Hooray! United takes down the Battery 1-0

Kipp Keller’s late strike grabs all three points for United

Albuquerque, NM – “This is my home” a very enthusiastic Kipp Keller said postgame. “If you play for the name at the front of the shirt (fans) will hopefully remember the back.” United did just that and some on Saturday night in front of over 8,000 fans at Rio Grande Credit Union Field at Isotopes Park. 

Like every good boxing match both fighters traded blows early and often. United however looked to have thrown the first punch when Dayonn Harris snuck around the Charleston keeper. Harris shot went just wide of the mark keeping things level heading into the break.  

Chris Gloster came up big in the second half with a massive block inside the box that was heading straight towards goal. As the sunset turned to night and the Sandia Mountains drifted into the darkness of the May night Kipp Keller riffled a shot from outside the 18 that found the back of the net late for New Mexico. United would go on the hold and secure all three points. This was United’s first win over the Battery since 2022.

New Mexico United will hit the road next week for another eastern conference showdown this time against Hartford Athletic on Saturday Night at 5 PM MT.

Back in Turquoise – United to debut new kit Saturday against Charleston Battery

This year’s Black and Yellow Derby will feature a splash of New Mexico color

The Black and Yellow Derby makes its return as the Charleston Battery travel to Albuquerque to take on New Mexico. After dropping the first two match ups against United the Battery have taken the last three meetings. This will be the two teams sixth all time meeting. For this being a cross conference match up the two clubs have met every year since 2021 when inter league play was brought into the league.

Turquoise and Black Attack

New Mexico United is debuting their new Turquoise Vintage Kit for this match and are looking to make a splash with them on. Fans will be able to purchase their kits at the match Saturday. You can read more about the behind the scenes of the filming here.

Better Call Howell and Niko

United will look to their backline of Niko Hämäläinen and Maliek Howell. Both defenders for United have accounted for 51 total clearances, 11 interceptions, 11 blocks and 691 total passes.The two have been a massive part in all of United’s victories this season.

Batten down the Hatches

The Battery have historically been one of the leagues best teams and with that comes scoring. The East coast side has shown they are dangerous once again scoring 12 goals so far. Six of those are from open play and five are from set pieces with one penalty scored this year. United will look to contain Colton Swan who leads the Battery with three goals in seven appearances so far this season.

Despite Arozarena’s Heroics United falls 1-0

The Cuba native kept United in the match with remarkable saves

Albuquerque, NM – In his second league start of the season Raiko Arozarena worked to keep United’s home unbeaten streak alive. Arozarena made four remarkable saves in his efforts.

The match got off to a rocky start with a mistake that led to Tampa Bay’s lone goal in the fifth minute of play. From there United pushed hard to find the equalizer and stayed strong in the back providing Arozarena support throughout the night.  

“It’s a long season…we still have a lot more games to go. We just have to bounce back and keep going.” Defender Maliek Howell said postmatch. Howell who played 56 minutes on Wednesday night accounted for five clearances, two interceptions, and two recoveries. “We believe in what the coach is doing. We believe in the team, the players, the staff, the organization, and the fans as well.”

New Mexico United will have a quick turn around as they will play on Saturday May 23rd at 7 PM. This will be the teams ‘Schools Out Night’ honoring local area school kids and their teachers as they work towards the end of this school year. You can get your tickets at Seatgeek.com.

The 727 meets the 505 – Tampa Bay travels to take on New Mexico

The Rowdies put their undefeated record on the line Wednesday Night

For the first time ever the Tampa Bay Rowdies are heading to Albuquerque. This will be the two clubs first meeting in two years and only third all time between these cross country foes. This will be the highest elevation match the Rowdies have played in since September of 2024 when they lost 4-2 to Colorado Springs.

Welcome Home

 It is no secret that New Mexico enjoys playing in front of their home fans as all but one of United’s wins has come in Albuquerque. United has used the backing of the Black and Yellow faithful to their advantage as 10 of United’s 12 goals this season have come at home. The month of May has also seen the most home matches so far at home for United as Wednesday night’s match up against Tampa Bay will be the third this month at home.

Keep Pushing

 Of Niall Reid-Stephen’s three goals this season two of them have come at home. Reid-Stephen has fit into the USL Championship either leading or towards the top multiple statistical categories for United. Ousman Jabang has played a key role as well leading the side in tackles won and has been a calming force on the United back line this season. Jabang who is a co-captain for the Black and Yellow has stepped up to that roll perfectly this year.

Mile High Journey

Tampa Bay is heading up over 5,268’ from this home ground. The Rowdies however have been a force to be reckoned with this season being the last undefeated team in the USL. Tampa Bay has shared the wealth when it comes to goal scoring and one of the key parts of this attack is former United man Marco Micaletto. Micaletto is tied for the team lead in goals with two.

Garden of the Goals – United looks to keep the fun going in The Springs

New Mexico is coming off of two big results and looks to make it three

It is time for round two of the Cryptids Cup and this time it takes place in Colorado Springs. The last time these two Rocky Mountain rivals faced off it was in Albuquerque and saw New Mexico United came away with a thrilling 3-2 win. That win over the Switchbacks brought New Mexico’s home unbeaten streak over them to nine straight matches.

Colorado Rocky Mountain High

Roswell, New Mexico native John Denver really enjoyed his time in Colorado and so has United. New Mexico is 7-4-1 (W-L-D) all-time in Colorado Springs.Recently they have taken the last two matches at Weidner Field. United has out scored the Switchbacks 18 -14 all time in the Olympic City and have scored two or more goals in five of their 12 matches across all competitions. A key factor in this has been United’s ability to adjust to the altitude most teams seem to struggle with when traveling to 6,035’ above sea level. Albuquerque is only about 700 feet lower than the Springs allowing for a quicker adjustment to the high elevation.

(Pikes) Peak Performances

If United wants to keep this trend going this weekend they will have to look to Niko Hämäläinen and Dayonn Harris. Hämäläinen leads United with 26 clearances and has been a force on the back line for New Mexico early. As for Harris he has picked up right where he left off last season for New Mexico leading the team in assists and scoring one goal. 

Khori in the House

Khori Bennett has haunted New Mexico fans since his game winner against the Black and Yellow in the 2024 playoffs. Since that night in November he has added on four more goals against United. In United’s home opener this season Bennett looked to have saved a point for Springs with a late converted PK before Ousman Jabang won the game just moments later. Bennett scored a brace in the last match up.

¡Bienvenido Miguel Herrera! New Mexico United to host Liga MX side Atlante FC in International Friendly

Former Mexico National Team head coach brings Liga MX newcomers to Albuquerque

Albuquerque, NM – Today New Mexico United along with presenting partner New Mexico True are excited to announce an historic friendly with Mexican Side Atlante FC. The match will take place on July 1st at 7:30 PM and will be played at Rio Grande Credit Union Field at Isotopes Park. This will be United’s fifth International Friendly in club history and third against a Liga MX side. 

“Everytime we get the opportunity to test ourselves against a club of the level it is something we are excited to take on.” Sporting Director Itamar Keinan said, “Atlante FC is a top club with a rich history and I know our players will welcome that type of competition. I look forward to the match.” 

Atlante FC are going back up to Liga MX after spending 12 years in Liga de Expansión MX, the second tier of soccer in Mexico. The side that calls the Estadio Azteca home has purchased the franchise rights to Mazatlán FC and will take their spot in Liga MX starting next season. Founded in 1916 has won eight major trophies being three time Copa México champions, three time Liga MX championships, and two time CONCACAF Champions Cup/Champions League winners. 

Atlante FC are led by former Mexico National team manager Miguel Herrera. Herrera who played for the side has returned to the squad that got his coaching career started. The native of Hidalgo, Mexico Herrera led Mexico to the 2014 World Cup where El Tri would come in second in their group and lose to the Kingdom of the Netherlands controversially in the round of 16. Mexico and Herrera would win the 2015 Concacaf Gold Cup before he was let go. In 2025 Herrera would return to the international stage leading Costa Rica for a few months.
