Today the United States Soccer Federation completed the third round draw for the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. New Mexico United, drawing out of the Mountain Group, were drawn to face fellow USL Championship Western Conference club Phoenix Rising FC in Phoenix in the third round.
These two clubs know each other well – having faced each other five times in their history. Most notable in that match-up’s history was the 2019 U.S. Open Cup Second Round match that saw United travel to Phoenix and advance 6-5 on penalties after the teams remained tied at 1-1 in 120 minutes. United goalkeeper Cody Mizell made the winning penalty save against Rising’s A.J. Cochran to seal the victory for the Black & Yellow.
The match date and time have not yet been finalized, but will be played between April 19 and 21st in Phoenix.
