
(March 11, 2021) Albuquerque, NM – New Mexico United is thrilled to announce the signing of goalkeeper Alex Tambakis. The Greek keeper’s professional career began with six successful seasons with Panathinaikos of Super League Greece and included a league title in 2014. Tambakis then played one season with VVV-Venlo of the Dutch Eredivise, before making the switch to the Charleston Battery of USL Championship. In his subsequent five seasons in the USL Championship, Tambakis has recorded 37 clean sheets and has been among the front runners for the Golden Glove award multiple times.
“We're incredibly excited to welcome Alex to our club,” said New Mexico United Head Coach and Technical Director Troy Lesesne. “He has a great presence in goal and with his experience in our league over the last 5 years he will undoubtedly instill confidence in our defensive unit.”
Prior to his professional career, Tambakis played five seasons in the Panathinaikos youth program. He represented the Greek U-19 National Team in the 2010-2011 international season.
