(March 2, 2021) Albuquerque, NM – New Mexico United and the United Soccer League are excited to announce conference alignments ahead of the 2021 season. New Mexico will play in the Mountain Division of the Western Conference – the lone seven-club division. New Mexico will be joined by Austin Bold FC, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, El Paso Locomotive FC, Real Monarchs SLC, Rio Grande Valley FC, and San Antonio FC.
“We are excited to kick the first ball in a long time here in New Mexico,” said New Mexico United President/CEO Peter Trevisani. “It will be a special moment when we have fans at our backs for the first time in more than a year and a half. We look forward to competing against this division of excellent teams – as well as teams across divisions and conferences – and will fight to bring a cup home to New Mexico.”
During the regular season, each team will play its division opponents four times – twice home, twice away. In the Atlantic, Central and Pacific Divisions, the four remaining games will be played against regional or cross-conference opponents. In the Mountain Division, the remaining eight games will be played against regional or cross-conference opponents.
The announcement of home openers and full schedules are expected in the coming weeks. New Mexico United will open its preseason slate against El Paso Locomotive FC on March 20th. This match will be played at New Mexico United’s training facility at Mesa del Sol.
