(ALBUQUERQUE, NM) 11 days ago, New Mexico United played their inaugural match, and earned their first point in history.Tonight, they earned 3 points for the first time, as they defeated Tulsa Roughnecks 2:1, in front of 8,000 plus United fanatics.
Devon Sandoval struck first in the 7th minute, when Tulsa Goalkeeper, Sean Lewis failed to properly handle a Manny Padilla cross, only to see it hang for any easy Sandoval put away. Santi Moar, assisted by team captain Josh Suggs, would follow that with a 20th minute bullet off of his magical left foot. It was Moar’s 3rd goal in 2 matches.
The visitors upped the pressure in the second half, and would eventually find the net in the 60th minute, but Head Coach Troy Lesesne made key substitutions to fortify the United defenses, and see out the win.
Once again, New Mexico United found themselves in a match where the opponent controlled the majority of possession (60% for Tulsa), but they made good on the chances they had, and walked off the pitch to the joyous cheers of the United Faithful.
Man of the Match
Santi Moar drew even more eyes to his 2019 campaign with yet another transcendent performance. An 82% passing percentage is incredible, and even that was overshadowed by the dynamite winner heard around the USL.
