NEW MEXICO UNITED ANNOUNCES MEOW WOLF NIGHT
Soccer Team to Celebrate Jersey Sponsor with Art, Performances, Costume Contest and More at August 3 Match
ALBUQUERQUE, NM (July 1, 2019) New Mexico United professional soccer team announced today further details about their exciting Meow Wolf theme night on August 3. Fans will have a chance to experience this partnership at a whole new level during the New Mexico United v. Austin Bold FC match. Meow Wolf and New Mexico United are collaborating on a night of soccer and art that has never been done before.
“We knew from the beginning that bringing together art and sport in this way was uncharted territory, but now we are putting it into practice and laying a roadmap for other teams to follow,” said CEO and Owner of New Mexico United Peter Trevisani. “Fans will have so much to take in on this night, it will be a truly unique experience.”
Fans are encouraged to come in a costume for this match and to arrive early as the first 2500 fans in full costume will receive a limited-edition Meow Wolf x New Mexico United flag. Meow Wolf artists will be entertaining those in line before the match with live painting, dance performances, stilt-walking and other types of performance art. Fans should also keep their eyes peeled for a special guest – Snaggy, Meow Wolf’s beloved mascot, who will be making special appearances throughout the night.
Meow Wolf’s Co-founder and CEO Vince Kadlubek shared, "We are really excited about encouraging people of all ages to use their imaginations in day to day aspects of their lives. We want adults to keep playing, and we want kids to know that they don't have to choose between liking art or sports."
The national anthem will be performed by Meow Wolf’s first recording artist – mariachi singer, Carlos Medina. During halftime, Medina will also host a costume contest where fans who have gone all out can show off their looks and compete for prizes.
Artist-designed panels will also be on display throughout the park, as a part of the United By Paint project announced by New Mexico United last month in collaboration with the City of Albuquerque, We are This City and Meow Wolf.
Earlier this year, New Mexico United revealed their inaugural home jersey prominently featuring the colorful logo of home jersey partner Meow Wolf. The partnership between New Mexico’s professional soccer team and the Santa Fe based, world-renowned art collective is unique in the sports world and represents the artisan culture prevalent in New Mexico.
Tickets can be purchased through New Mexico United here.
