(ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico) There’s no place like home. After nearly two months away from Albuquerque, New Mexico United returned to Isotopes Park with a vengeance, handing rivals El Paso Locomotive FC at 3:1 loss, in front of 13,521 of the Black & Yellow faithful.
Just past the half way mark of the first half, United’s Ken Akamatsu drew a penalty, and Kevaughn Frater sent Locomotive FC Goalkeeper, Jermaine Fordah flying out of position. Frater tucked his attempt into the center of the net for the 1:0 first half lead.
In the 71st minute, Fordah bobbled a ball, and United’s Chris Wehan seized on the opportunity to put his side up 2. Less than five minutes later, Frater put on a footwork clinic and opened up a beautiful crossing opportunity. His ball floated perfectly for Wehan, who headed home his second of the night.
El Paso were able to put 4 shots on goal, but none of them truly tested United Goalkeeper Cody Mizell, who earned his 3rd clean sheet of the season.
