UNITED SOCCER LEAGUE TEMPORARILY SUSPENDS 2020 SEASON, INCLUDING NEW MEXICO UNITED MATCHES
ALBUQUERQUE, NM (March 12, 2020) – The United Soccer League announced today a suspension of the 2020 season for a minimum of 30 days.
“It was very clear from our owners that the health and safety of players, fans, and staff was their top priority,” said USL CEO Alec Papadakis. “In consultation with local, state and national health authorities, as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Department of Homeland Security, we have temporarily suspended match play for a minimum of 30 days.”
New Mexico United is following the direction of the league and will not be hosting any matches until otherwise notified.
“From day one, we have been proud to be part of our community,” said majority owner and CEO Peter Trevisani. “Part of being a community means taking steps to keep everyone healthy. We will be playing whatever role necessary to ensure the health and safety of our fans, players and staff.”
This will affect the previously scheduled 3/14 match in Tulsa, as well as matches on 3/21 3/25, 4/4 and 4/11.
It is the current expectation that matches will be made up at a future date and any tickets purchased to the first three home matches will be exchanged and honored. The situation remains fluid so should this extend further than 30 days we will re-address the situation and act accordingly.
New Mexico United is also closing the retail store and box office starting today, for a minimum of 2 weeks. The online box office and e-commerce store remain open.
