
(June 15, 2021) Albuquerque, NM – New Mexico United, Oh Lawd Records, Didómi, and local artists Sydnee Mejia and M. Joel Barkley are excited to unveil a collaboration aimed at celebrating Black joy and success in our community, and helping make that community a better place. Beginning tomorrow (6/16), United and Oh Lawd Records will sell an incredible new stainless steel yellow and black water bottle, with the proceeds from each bottle providing access to clean water to someone who needs it most for up to 10 years.
In addition, an incredible new t-shirt designed by local artists Sydnee Mejia and Joel Barkley, featuring the New Mexico Juneteenth 2021 theme “To a Higher Ground” will also launch tomorrow, with proceeds benefiting Live Above Win Daily, one of the presenting sponsors of New Mexico Juneteenth 2021. Live Above Win Daily is a non-profit organization, focused on providing opportunity for black & brown creatives in New Mexico.
"Art is the foundation for growth. Art is life,” said Live Above Win Daily Co-Founder/Executive Director Jeremy Jasper. “We want to help BIPOC artists reclaim their voice in creative arts, media and music. Together, with love & art, we can move to a higher ground."
These items – which are part of NMU's United Against Racism line, which benefits the Somos Unidos Foundation's Diversity Fellowship Program and other racial and social justice efforts – will be on sale at New Mexico United’s match on June 16th. New Mexico's Juneteenth celebration kicks off on Friday at Civic Plaza, and stretches through the weekend. The three-day celebration will feature local and national artists, local black-owned businesses and organizations, conversations with local leaders, delicious food and more.
