New Mexico United is excited to announce the addition of Nate Walzer to the technical staff ahead of the 2022 USL Championship season. Walzer will serve in the role of Director of Goalkeepers/Assistant Coach. He comes to United after serving as Goalkeeper Coach for the Charlotte Independence since 2019.
“When Zach reached out about this position, accepting was a no-brainer,” said Walzer. “It has been exciting to see what United has put into place to allow the community to support their players. I’m thrilled to get to New Mexico and begin putting in the work.”
Walzer grew up in Connecticut and discovered soccer at a young age, playing in youth leagues – mainly as a striker – before making the switch to goalkeeper in his teenage years. He played college ball at the University of Rio Grande in Ohio, making the National Championship Game.
After his collegiate career, he joined the staff at Concordia University in Portland, Oregon where he served as Assistant Coach and Goalkeeper Coach from 2013 to 2018. While in Portland, he also began work with Portland Timbers Academy, meeting future United Head Coach/Technical Director Zach Prince. In 2018, he took over as Goalkeeper Coach for NC State before moving to the USL Championship’s Charlotte Independence in 2019.
Walzer describes himself as a high-energy, hands-on coach with a focus on empowering players and teammates.
