Hurst and LaCava play hero in gritty win
Albuquerque, NM – Much like Gene Kelly in the 1952 classic Singin’ in the Rain United on Sunday night enjoyed a night time stroll with the heavens weeping from above. A win that not only moves the Black and Yellow one step closer to the dream of a USL Championship but won the 2026 series against their rival Phoenix Rising.
The wild contest seemed to love the number two a lot. The night featured a two hour rain delay, saw two red cards to Rising players, two United players scoring and a final score of 2-0. Greg Hurst and Jake LaCava both pushed New Mexico into the next round with Hurst becoming New Mexico’s all time leading goal scorer at 39 and LaCava scoring his first USL Championship goal for United and winning Pepsi Man of the Match honors.
With that win in front of 9,413 New Mexicans United will move on to face their Rocky Mountain rival in the Colorado Springs Switchbacks. That match will take place on November 7th at 7:30 PM at Rio Grande Credit Union Field at Isotopes Park.
