ALBUQUERQUE, NM (December 19, 2018) New Mexico United announced today the professional soccer team’s latest player signings, under the guidance of Head Coach Troy Lesesne. David Estrada, Kevaughn Frater and Ben Beaury join New Mexico United’s roster for its 2019 opening season. New Mexico United’s first official game will take place on March 9 against Fresno FC at Isotopes Park.
Estrada, Frater and Beaury are the most recent players to sign with the team, joining nine recently signed New Mexico United players, including three New Mexicans, Devon Sandoval, Justin Schmidt and Josh Suggs, as well as Juan Guzman, Sam Hamilton, Cody Mizell, Santi Moar, Toni Soler and Austin Yearwood. All player signings are pending United Soccer League (USL) and federation approval.
“I’m truly excited to work with [Coach] Lesesne again. I know his style of play will get results and the players he’s recruiting are all hungry to make the inaugural year in New Mexico a memorable one,” said Estrada. “Together with [Peter] Trevisani’s vision, the whole community is in for an exciting first season of pro soccer.”
David Estrada, forward, originally from Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico, has had a long and successful career in soccer. Estrada was drafted in the first round of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft (11th overall) by the Seattle Sounders. In 2018, Estrada played for the USL’s Seattle Sounders 2, with 33 appearances, 16 starts, 11 goals and 2 assists. Estrada was named to USL Team of the Week and as the Sounders 2 Humanitarian of the Year.
With the USL’s Charlotte Independence in 2016 and 2017, Estrada had 62 appearances, 55 starts, 11 goals and 2 assists. In 2015, Estrada played with the USL’s Orange County Blues, with 8 appearances and 3 assists. In 2015, Estrada played for the USL’s Sacramento Republic FC, with 18 appearances, 3 goals and 3 assists. In 2014, Estrada was traded to the MLS’ DC United, where he was on loan with both the Atlanta Silverbacks and the Charlotte Eagles, with 5 appearances, 4 starts, 1 goal and 1 assist. From 2010 – 2014, Estrada played with the Seattle Sounders, where he was named MLS Player of the Week and Sounders Humanitarian of the Year.
“David has a work ethic and an engine that's second to none. Even as a veteran player, he continues to fine tune his game and improve as indicated by scoring a career high of 11 goals last season,” said Lesesne. “Above his on-field talents, David is a player that will make our culture better every day. I was fortunate to work with him in 2016 and 2017, and am grateful to be with him again for 2019."

Kevaughn Frater, forward, originally hails from Portmore, Jamaica. Frater most recently played (on loan from Harbour View Football Club) with the USL’s Phoenix Rising FC, where he started in the 2018 USL Cup game against Louisville City FC. Frater’s 2018 season with Phoenix Rising FC provided him with the opportunity for 21 appearances, 7 starts, 3 goals and 1 assist. In 2017, Frater was on loan with the Colorado Springs Switchbacks, where he had 29 appearances, 18 starts, 12 goals and 6 assists. Additionally, Frater was named USL Player of the Week and USL Goal of the Week. In 2016, Frater was on loan with MLS’ Real Monarchs where he had 19 appearances, 10 starts, 1 goal and 1 assist. Frater played with the Jamaica U23 National Team. Frater has been playing with the Harbour View Football Club since 2013, with 56 appearances and 7 goals under his belt.
“I'm thrilled to have Kevaughn with New Mexico United. He's going to give us a completely different dimension in the way we attack. He has pace, power, and technique and knows how to create goals for himself and his teammates,” said Lesesne. “He has significant experience in the USL and I'm looking forward to working with a talent like Kevaughn.”

Ben Beaury, goalkeeper, originally from Cohoes, NY, was most recently signed to the USL’s Charlotte Independence, where he was able to work directly with Coach Lesesne. Beaury attended college at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY, where he played four years of collegiate soccer. During his four years at Le Moyne, Beaury was Northeast-10 All Conference, Northeast-10 First Team and Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of the Year. In his final season with Le Moyne, he had 10 appearances, 86 saves and a 1.01 goals allowed average.
“I had the pleasure of working with Ben in Charlotte last season and he is another great addition to our club,” said Lesesne. “He possesses a quiet determination to learn and improve every single day, and this type of mentality is exactly what our club is about. I saw first-hand how much he developed over the course the 2018 season, and I expect the same trend for him in 2019.”
